Does My Heart Need New EYES?

The simple words of the traditional song "Open the Eyes of My Heart, Lord" struck me with new depth and meaning today at church. What does it look like to have the "Eyes of Your Heart Opened"? Does it simply mean that your heart needs to sprout a pair of eyes? No, I think the meaning might go deeper.



If the eyes of your heart were to be opened as the song explains, wouldn't that be speaking of our spiritual eyes and heart rather than the physical? So in other words... this song is suggesting that we tune our heart into the plans of God by opening our eyes to the Holy Spirit and the work he is doing. Maybe its also suggesting that through our eyes being opened, we can see Jesus and what He has done for us more clearly...?


Anyone have any other ideas on what the "Eyes of Our Hearts" being opened might look like?
